“Auroras is a site-specific, temporary intervention in the environment of Goyki 3 park. In this work, Furian addresses the topic of light – being a mean of creation – which can be translated as a metaphor for the demiurgic relation of humans to nature. The title of the work brings forward the mythological connotations as well as the progressive rhythm of night and day. The spectrum of violet colors used in Auroras is of practical relevance. As they stand as the tones used for the indoor cultivation of plants, the light waves, precisely composed of blue and red tones, are the best source for photosynthesis. By placing them in the park’s space, Furian creates a large-scale environment that communicates growth. While experiencing the intervention, the visitor might sense a strong feeling of dystopic imagination. Walking and gazing around the park brings back, on one hand, the pleasing memories of fairy tales yet on the other, give a sense of unpredictability, of a worrying and disordered landscape. The image of a future with limited access to light and resources together with artificiality is striking. During the day, the green color dominates. At night Auroras brings focus on a variety of unnatural tones which create a coating that envelops the trees, the paths, and the visitors within. Auroras wakes up with the fall of the sun and drop off at dawn.” Text by Kasia Sobczak
